Course CodeNameCourse Description
CT7000-8Developing Instructional Strategies and CurriculumIn Developing Instructional Strategies and Curriculum, Learners will contrast and analyze instructional strategies based on a framework of architectural principles. Learners will integrate and implement curriculum theories and models that can include differentiated instruction and the infusion of technology. Curriculum standards, requirements, issues, and trends will be evaluated for the production and promotion of recommendations for effective change.
EDU8002-8Educational Research Methodology This Doctoral level course provides learners with an overview of the research process, and an opportunity to learn about educational research methodology and the components of a dissertation. The course will also provide the learner with the opportunity to identify and develop a research topic, define a research problem, describe the purpose of the research study, and establish associated research question(s). The learner will prepare a Topic Paper and a preliminary annotated bibliography for the dissertation topic in the Signature Assignment.
CT7001-8The Role of the Teacher PractitionerThe teacher as practitioner is a role open to a variety of perspectives for analysis and improvement that can offer doctoral learners opportunities for growth; one perspective is the discipline of reflective practice. In CT7001, the doctoral learner will analyze and integrate reflective thinking processes, descriptive feedback, and reflective strategies and benefits. The learner will also synthesize experiential learning cycles and perspectives, and personal action themes into a plan for ongoing success as a reflective practitioner. Evaluation of present teaching practices will provide a portfolio to improve personal and professional growth, teaching methods and strategies, and student learning.
EDU8003-8Statistics IThis course provides an introductory exploration of statistics for the graduate Learner. It includes instruction on the calculation, use, and interpretation of descriptive statistics, and introduces inferential statistical analysis. The emphasis of this course is on providing a working knowledge of basic statistical concepts to help the Learner understand statistical methodology used in education, and also more generally, developing a working knowledge of statistical usage in everyday life.
CT7002-8Identifying and Maximizing Learning/ Teaching StylesThe skillful use of learning and teaching styles requires familiarity with style models. CT7002 offers the doctoral learner opportunities for the analysis and assessment of the interactions at play within learning/teaching styles and strategies and applications. The doctoral learner will investigate and evaluate the responsible use of styles plus the synthesis, application, and assessment of style models within diverse learning contexts. The doctoral learner will integrate insights for maximizing styles within a plan for continuing professional development.
EDU8202-8Research DesignIn this course, the Learner acquires the basic skills necessary for the interpretation and application of quantitative, qualitative, and mixed methods research. The Learner will examine the formal research process carefully, with an emphasis on practical applications and skill development. Critical concepts and principles intrinsic to research paradigms, study designs, and methods of inquiry are presented to empower the Learner’s ability to formulate and respond to research questions. The resources listed below from the Northcentral University Dissertation Center are critical resources throughout the whole research process – learners are highly encouraged to become deeply familiar with the resources from the Northcentral University Dissertation Center.
EDU8005-8Qualitative Research DesignThis course is an examination of qualitative methods for studying human behavior including grounded theory, narrative analysis, ethnography, mixed methods, and case studies.
CT7003-8Teaching and Learning FoundationsThe foundations of teaching and learning can be viewed from several perspectives. One such perspective includes the principles supporting the theories and models used today by educational practitioners; this class will focus on such principles. Doctoral learners in CT7003-8 will contrast and evaluate the development, motivation, and transfer of learning processes and models. Multiple intelligences and meta-cognition will be evaluated for possible changes that can improve teaching practices. The influence of emotional, social, and cultural contexts will be analyzed and evaluated for making effective decisions that support school structures which enable student learning.
EDU8006-8Statistics IIThis course is an intermediate examination of statistical analyses commonly used for research in education. It prepares the doctoral student with the skills required to plan, conduct (using SPSS), report, and interpret quantitative statistical analyses. Topics include: basic statistical knowledge, probability theory, exploratory date analysis, assumptions for statistical tests, parametric and nonparametric tests. Specific analyses include: correlation, regression (simple, multiple, and logistic), basic ANOVA and advanced ANOVA techniques.
CT7004-8Language and Literacy EducationLanguage and Literature Education will assist the doctoral student in learning about the processes of language development. Students will analyze the theory of mind and the processes of language and meaning development by reflecting on their own understanding of language. Students will reflect on the impact of language acquisition on learning and teaching literacy. In addition, students will create strategies, lessons, and assessments designed for language and literacy.
EDU8007-8Quantitative Research DesignThis course provides Learners with the skills essential for designing experimental, quasi-experiment, and survey studies; analyzing the data collected in these studies, and interpreting the results of data analyses. Learners will explore designs and statistical techniques to use with their envisioned dissertation research.
CT7005-8Literacy: Focus on CurriculumThis class, CT7005-8, offers doctoral learners opportunities to investigate and assess the issues and research related to literacy development and literacy curriculum development. Learners will analyze principles and strategies that foster literacy development in the early grades and apply learning to classroom curriculum and instruction.
